Historic Vehicles and Traditions at the Vanatehnika Lustisõit
Vintage vehicles are closely tied to heritage and tradition. This spirit is carried on by the Vanatehnika Lustisõit (Historic Vehicle Joyride), which has taken place without interruption for 20 years and this year celebrates the beginning of its 21st season.
The success of Vanatehnika Lustisõit depends on the contribution of every participant. First, by joining the event with a suitable historic vehicle; second, by behaving respectfully towards others; and third, by helping to ensure that we always have enjoyable destinations to drive to.
Due to the growing number of participants this year, various changes have been considered – from significantly raising the minimum age of eligible vehicles, to allowing only cars with black license plates, or even skipping excursions altogether. However, for this year, the drive has been kept in its usual format.
Participation Rules for 2025
Time – from May to September, every third Tuesday evening of the month
Location – gathering point at Autosõit OÜ skid control track, Karjääri tee 5, Männiku village
Schedule – gathering from 18:00, departure around 19:30
Eligible vehicles – a well-maintained and technically sound vehicle at least 35 years old. Starting this year, the manufacturing year requirement has been frozen indefinitely, meaning that vehicles produced no later than 1990 may participate. Exceptions can be made for historic vehicles and with prior approval from the organizer.
The July 15th drive concluded with an excursion to our Benefit restoration workshop. The turnout was impressive – according to the count at Männiku, 132 vintage vehicles and nearly 250 people gathered. We at Benefit were well-prepared, and thanks to the wonderful company, the evening passed without a hitch, with conversations lasting late into the night.
We are deeply grateful to everyone who visited us, to Indrek Sirk for organizing, to Sergei Zjuganov for the photos, and to our own team for their efforts in hosting and guiding the tour.
The next ride – and the final one of this season – will take place on September 16th.
