The Mercedes-Benz 300GD was a diesel powered variant of the W460 G-Class that was introduced for the 1980 model year. The 300 GD was the top diesel offering for the W460, and was offered in short and long wheelbase versions, which featured cabriolet, wagon, and panel van body styles. As well as the standard civilian versions, a sparsely equipped military version known as the 461 was also built. These cars were powered by Mercedes' OM617 D30 engine, which was a 3.0L inline five diesel powerplant that generated 87hp and 167 lb ft of torque. This engine sent drive to all four wheels via a 4 speed manual, 5 speed manual, or 4 speed automatic transmission.
