The Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 Touring Berlinetta (1938–1940) is one of the most celebrated pre-war Italian sports cars, renowned for its elegant Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera bodywork, advanced engineering, and exceptional craftsmanship. Built in very limited numbers, these rare grand touring automobiles represent the pinnacle of classic Alfa Romeo design and remain highly prized by collectors worldwide.
Restoring an Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 Touring Berlinetta requires extensive knowledge of original construction techniques, authentic materials, and period-correct mechanical components. Our restoration process is dedicated to preserving originality while returning each vehicle to concours-quality standards through meticulous metal fabrication, coach work restoration, engine rebuilding, chassis restoration, interior trimming, and authentic finishing.
With only seven known examples of this remarkable exact model remaining, this restoration represents a truly once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Every stage of the project is guided by comprehensive originality research, period documentation, and meticulous craftsmanship to ensure the car is returned to its original factory specification. From the complicated restoration of the Superleggera body and chassis to the engine, drivetrain, interior, and paint finish, every component is treated with the respect and precision that such an exceptionally rare Alfa Romeo deserves.

With the structural work and aluminium body restoration mostly completed, the next phase focused on the restoration, reconstruction, and precise fitting of the many individual components that define this unique Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 Touring Berlinetta.
The original firewall separating the engine compartment from the passenger cabin was carefully restored, tens of incorrect holes welded shut- preserving its factory construction and details. Based on surviving fragments, historical photographs, and careful research, we recreated the complete rear window sunshade system, restored the door locks and operating mechanisms, and fabricated new aluminium wheel arch liners. Each restored or newly manufactured component was then carefully fitted together, ensuring perfect alignment and functionality throughout the vehicle. Hundreds of parts were galvanized and painted during that part of the process.
A number of missing smaller components were sourced from Italy; however, when it came to body-specific parts, virtually nothing was available. This presented a significant challenge, as this particular car differs substantially from all other surviving examples of the model.
Built in 1940, this Alfa Romeo appears to have been a unique special-order creation. Its body is approximately 60 mm longer than the other known cars, featuring a wide, curved rear window made from Plexiglas and doors equipped with sliding windows, a construction more commonly associated with cabriolet design rather than a conventional Berlinetta.
These unique characteristics confirm that this was not simply another production example, but a highly individual, coachbuilt one-off automobile created to a specific owner's requirements. Its exceptional originality, rarity, and one-off configuration make this restoration project even more significant and add considerable historical value to an already extraordinary Alfa Romeo.
Following the completion of the structural restoration and the reconstruction of the unique body components, the fully restored aluminium coachwork entered the final finishing stage. Every panel was meticulously refined, aligned, and hand-finished to achieve the precise surface quality required for a world-class restoration.
The completed aluminium body was then carefully prepared while preserving the original Touring Superleggera character and craftsmanship. Countless hours were dedicated to refining panel transitions, correcting subtle imperfections, and ensuring that every curve, edge, and contour matched the intended factory design.
Once the aluminium bodywork reached the required standard, the vehicle moved into the paint preparation phase. For this exceptional Alfa Romeo, only the highest-quality materials were selected, using premium German Standox paint technology throughout the preparation process. Advanced primer systems and professional refinishing techniques were applied to provide outstanding corrosion protection, long-term durability, and the perfect foundation for the final paint finish.
This meticulous preparation ensures that the finished exterior will not only showcase the elegance of the original Touring design but will also preserve the restored bodywork for future generations.
This stage of the restoration is currently ongoing, and we will continue to add further photographs and detailed information as the work progresses. Once the body is fully prepared and in primer, the vehicle will undergo a complete dry assembly process to verify the fit, alignment, and function of every component before final finishing.
After this important inspection stage, the Alfa Romeo will once again be carefully disassembled to allow the final paintwork to begin. The final colour combination was carefully selected to reflect the elegance and sophistication of pre-war Italian grand touring automobiles. The deep Nero Alfa Romeo exterior, combined with an authentic Pelle Verde Scuro (dark green leather) interior, represents one of the most refined combinations of the era.
Such discreet yet luxurious colour schemes were particularly favoured among Italy’s aristocracy and discerning clientele before the Second World War, perfectly complementing the handcrafted aluminium coachwork and exceptional proportions of the Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 Sport Berlinetta Touring.
With the body restoration progressing, attention turned to the complete restoration of the vehicle’s mechanical systems. The engine, gearbox, axles, suspension, steering system, and braking components all required detailed inspection, identification, and careful evaluation to determine the extent of restoration required and the need for replacement or newly manufactured parts.
This Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 features many advanced and unique mechanical solutions for its era, including truly remarkable front suspension system, independent rear suspension and cockpit-adjustable friction damper system, requiring particular attention during the restoration process. The suspension components, steering assembly, pedals, clutch, and braking systems were each individually assessed before being dismantled for restoration.
The mechanical restoration involves more than 1,500individual components, with every part cleaned, inspected, repaired, restored, or recreated where necessary. Each component is rebuilt to achieve perfect mechanical function, correct factory tolerances, and authentic appearance.
Equally important is the preservation of original finishes and surface treatments. Correct plating, coatings, finishes, and protective treatments are being applied according to period-correct specifications, ensuring that the restored mechanical assemblies are not only technically perfect but also visually faithful to how this exceptional Alfa Romeo would have appeared when new.
The goal is to create a mechanically precise, historically accurate automobile that performs exactly as intended by Alfa Romeo’s engineers while preserving the craftsmanship and engineering excellence of the pre-war era.
